HANITA, Israel – A resident of northern Israel suffered serious injuries on Saturday following an explosion caused by a drone packed with explosives. The incident, believed to be orchestrated by Hezbollah from neighboring Lebanon, took place in a kibbutz in the Galilee region, as reported by the Israeli military.
The victim, a member of the Hanita local security team and an IDF reservist, was promptly taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The Israeli army has informed his family about the situation.
Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based militant group backed by Iran, had previously admitted to targeting an Israeli forces’ building in a border community. The group claimed responsibility for launching suicide drones and rockets from Lebanon towards the northern Israeli community on Saturday afternoon. Sirens warning residents about the incoming drones were activated in multiple towns close to the northern border on two separate occasions.
These attacks by Hezbollah come at a time of escalated tensions in the region, with reports of daily rocket, missile, and drone attacks targeting northern Israel, particularly amid the conflict in Gaza.
Just the day before, on Friday night, Hezbollah unleashed a significant barrage of rockets and explosives-laden drones at northern Israel. The onslaught occurred as the country anticipated possible retaliatory strikes by Iran or its proxies in response to an alleged Israeli strike in Syria. The Syrian strike allegedly caused the deaths of several members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
This latest incident further underscores the ongoing conflict and heightened tensions between Israel, Hezbollah, and other regional actors. The situation remains volatile, with both sides engaging in provocative actions that threaten to escalate the already tense situation in the region. Efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further violence are urgently needed to avoid a full-blown conflict with potentially devastating consequences for all involved parties.
