Lahore Suspect in Sarabjit Singh’s Death Shot Dead by Gunmen

Lahore, Pakistan – Pakistani authorities are currently investigating the shooting death of a man previously acquitted in the killing of accused Indian spy Sarabjit Singh in a Lahore prison back in 2013, as mentioned by a police official on Sunday.

Accusations have been made against India’s intelligence agency for alleged involvement in killings within Pakistan, with credible evidence linking Indian agents to the deaths of two Pakistanis last year.

The man who recently passed away in Lahore was identified as Amir Tamba and was suspected in the death of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national convicted of spying in Pakistan and sentenced to death in 1991.

The circumstances surrounding Singh’s demise in 2013 after an attack by fellow inmates in a Lahore prison served to further heighten tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed nations in South Asia.

Tamba and another individual had faced trial for Singh’s death but were ultimately acquitted in 2018 due to insufficient evidence.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police in Lahore, Ali Nasir Rizvi, gunmen entered Tamba’s residence and opened fire, subsequently fleeing the scene on a motorbike. Authorities from the army and intelligence agency arrived, retrieving Tamba’s body and transporting it to the city’s Combined Military Hospital.

Rizvi confirmed that a case had been filed against unidentified attackers, refraining from disclosing further details, including a possible motive behind the attack.

While local media outlets in Pakistan showed minimal coverage of Tamba’s death, Indian news sources quickly reported on the incident. As of yet, there has been no official response from Indian authorities regarding the matter.

Singh’s arrest in 1990 for his alleged involvement in bombings in Lahore and Faisalabad, which resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals, continues to be a contentious issue, with his family maintaining his innocence.

In recent times, accusations have surfaced implicating Indian agents in plots to assassinate individuals in the United States and Canada. India has refuted these claims, dismissing them as baseless and against their government’s policies.
