NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A man accused of a violent assault on a disc golfer at Shelby Park in November has returned to Nashville to face the charges against him. Vanell Coble, 28, is facing charges of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily harm.
The incident occurred while the victim was playing disc golf in November. Coble reportedly approached him and attempted to take his disc, leading to a heated argument between the two men. Reports suggest that Coble then brandished a knife during the altercation.
In response, the victim retrieved a sledgehammer from his truck in an attempt to defend himself and demanded that Coble stay away. Despite this, Coble allegedly charged at the victim and viciously assaulted him with his fists, resulting in severe injuries including two black eyes, a broken nose, broken orbital socket, a broken blood vessel in one eye, and a potential tooth injury, according to the police.
Fortunately, the victim was able to identify Coble as the suspect. At the time of the incident, Coble was already in custody in Franklin, Tennessee, and has since been transferred to authorities in Nashville.
As of Saturday, Coble remains in custody in Nashville on a $10,000 bond. The severity of the charges and the extent of the victim’s injuries highlight the violent nature of the incident. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
