Chicopee, Massachusetts – A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend in western Massachusetts, with a Chicopee firefighter facing charges for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death. The Hampden District Attorney’s Office reported that 52-year-old Jason Chapdelaine of Springfield was arrested and charged with murder after 48-year-old Eileen Monaghan of Chicopee was found stabbed early Sunday morning.
The episode came to light around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday when Holyoke police responded to a 911 call reporting suspicious activity in the 200 block of South Water Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a male and female present. The woman had sustained stab wounds, while the man was in an unresponsive state due to self-inflicted injuries. Tragically, despite receiving medical attention, the woman succumbed to her injuries.
Chapdelaine appeared in court for his arraignment on Tuesday at Holyoke District Court, where he pleaded not guilty and was detained without bail. The accused firefighter was confirmed to be in a relationship with the victim, as reported by The Boston Globe. Meanwhile, the Chicopee mayor’s office affirmed that Chapdelaine was a city firefighter who has been placed on unpaid leave following his arrest.
Eileen Monaghan, the victim, was described as an executive assistant to Sheriff Nick Cocchi and a mother of two. She had previously served as the chief of staff to retired State Rep. Joseph Wagner.
