Heroic French Construction Worker Welcomed to Stay in Australia After Stopping Mall Knife Attack

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese made a generous offer to a French construction worker who bravely intervened in a tragic stabbing incident that occurred at a Sydney shopping mall. The hero, Damien Guerot, became known as “Bollard Man” on social media after confronting the attacker with a plastic bollard, potentially preventing further casualties.

Guerrero’s temporary work visa was set to expire in July, but Prime Minister Albanese stepped in to ensure his continued presence in the country. Expressing his gratitude for Guerot’s courageous actions, Albanese extended an invitation for him to stay in Australia indefinitely, even suggesting the possibility of gaining Australian citizenship.

As a result of the prime minister’s intervention, Guerot received assurance from the government that he would be granted permanent residency in Australia. This news was welcomed by many, including opposition leader Peter Dutton, who praised Guerot’s character and expressed support for his citizenship application.

The incident at the shopping mall left six people dead, with several others injured, including a 9-month-old baby whose mother was among the victims. Guerot, along with his friend Silas Despreaux, found themselves in the midst of the chaos and took action to try to apprehend the attacker, Joel Cauchi.

Security footage captured Guerot’s brave attempt to stop Cauchi using a bollard and later wielding a plastic chair in pursuit. His quick thinking and bravery drew praise from officials, who credited him and others for preventing further bloodshed during the attack.

In the face of tragedy, Guerot’s selfless act of heroism has not gone unnoticed, with both government officials and the public showing support for his continued presence in Australia. His actions serve as a reminder of the courage and resilience displayed by individuals in times of crisis.
