Wanted: Suspect in Fatal Shooting Leaves Victim to Die on City Avenue

BALA CYNWYD, Pennsylvania – Law enforcement officials in Montgomery County are actively searching for a 39-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting another man and leaving him to die on a sidewalk along City Avenue. The suspect, Tyreese Quinerley, is believed to have been involved in the death of Jefferson Shackford, 39, who was known to be unhoused and had resided in Northwest Philadelphia.

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Tyreese Quinerley of North Philadelphia for his alleged role in the incident. According to Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, the investigation indicates that Quinerley engaged with police shortly after the shooting while standing over the victim’s body.

The tragic event unfolded around 11 p.m. on April 14, 2024, when Quinerley himself called 9-1-1 to report nearly hitting Shackford with his green Chevrolet Express van before stopping to help. Surveillance footage and eyewitness accounts revealed the erratic behavior of Quinerley’s van before coming to a stop at a red light at City and Cardinal avenues.

Further scrutiny into the incident unearthed evidence of Quinerley stepping out of his van, brandishing a firearm, and firing multiple shots at the vehicle before pulling Shackford out and leaving him on the pavement near St. Joseph’s University. Moreover, descriptions of the shooter from eyewitnesses matched Quinerley’s physical appearance, reinforcing the suspicion of his involvement in the crime.

Following the discovery of Shackford’s discarded cell phone near the scene, investigators traced calls made from the device, connecting Quinerley to the victim. Additionally, recordings of the 9-1-1 call revealed Quinerley repeatedly referring to Shackford by his nickname, “Creek,” corroborating their acquaintance according to a witness.

Tyreese Quinerley faces charges of murder, weapon offenses, and other related crimes. Described as approximately five-feet, nine-inches tall and weighing around 225 pounds, Quinerley was last seen driving the green Chevrolet Express van with a Pennsylvania license plate number MCR4673. Authorities caution that Quinerley should be considered armed and dangerous, urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Montgomery County Detectives or Lower Merion Township Police.
