Delhi Police Officer Killed in Shootout on Busy Flyover: Gunman Shoots Himself After Rampage

New Delhi, India – A tragic incident unfolded on a busy flyover in northeast Delhi, resulting in the death of a Delhi Police officer. The chaos ensued when a man began firing indiscriminately before turning the gun on himself, leaving a third person injured and hospitalized.

The perpetrator, identified as Mukesh Kumar, unleashed gunfire on the Meet Nagar flyover around 11:45 am on Tuesday. Among the victims was Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Sharma, who tragically lost his life after being struck in the chest while traveling on his motorcycle. Despite efforts to save him, Sharma was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Another individual, identified as 30-year-old Amit Kumar, was also caught in the line of fire, sustaining a bullet wound to his waist while on his two-wheeler on the flyover. The chaos did not end there, as Mukesh Kumar, aged 44, proceeded to hijack an auto-rickshaw following the shooting spree.

Mukesh’s violent rampage continued as he took control of the auto-rickshaw, firing at the driver, Mehmood, who narrowly escaped by leaping out of the vehicle. The situation escalated as Mukesh turned the gun on himself, fatally shooting himself in the head inside the auto-rickshaw.

Authorities recovered a 7.65 mm pistol from the passenger seat of the auto, along with multiple live rounds and empty shells scattered across three locations on the flyover. The motive behind this tragic incident remains under investigation, with the police initiating a case of murder and attempted murder in response.

The community is left mourning the loss of Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Sharma, a dedicated member of the Delhi Police force, while also sending thoughts and prayers to the injured individual undergoing treatment.
