Fatal shooting in Birmingham neighborhood claims life of 21-year-old victim

Birmingham, Alabama – Authorities in Birmingham, Alabama, have disclosed the identity of a young man who was fatally shot in a residential neighborhood in the west side of the city. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was 21-year-old Anthony Lambert Jr., a resident of Birmingham. The tragic incident occurred in the 5700 block of Court I in Ensley, near Vinesville Road, close to Fairfield and Miles College.

According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, multiple gunshots were fired around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday in the neighborhood. Shot Spotter technology alerted authorities to the gunfire, leading police to discover Lambert unresponsive in the front yard of a home on 58th Street. Despite the efforts of Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service, Lambert was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:43 p.m.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation, as there was reportedly an argument between the victim and one or more suspects prior to the gunfire. The motive behind the altercation remains unclear at this time. Witnesses on the scene indicated the possibility of more than one assailant involved in the incident.

As detectives and officers continued their investigation, a person of interest in the shooting expressed willingness to surrender. With the assistance of a relative present at the scene, a coordinated surrender took place shortly after. No formal charges have been announced in connection with the case as of yet.

Authorities mentioned that as many as 10 shots were fired during the incident, raising concerns about the safety of the residential area. Birmingham has recorded 42 homicides this year, with four deemed justifiable, while Jefferson County as a whole has seen a total of 61 homicides.
