Shooting Leaves Two Dead and Five Injured Near Washington Convention Center

Washington, D.C. – Two individuals lost their lives while five others sustained injuries in a shooting incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Northwest D.C.

Authorities reported that the shooting took place at around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Seventh and P Street NW, where police discovered two women and three men with gunshot wounds in the 600 block of P Street NW. All five victims were promptly transported to local hospitals for treatment, although their current conditions remain undisclosed.

Following the discovery, two 32-year-old men, later identified as Anthony Brown from Southeast, D.C., and Jay Lucks from Baltimore, Maryland, were found in the vicinity with fatal gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, both men succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Law enforcement officials revealed that a male suspect fled the scene on foot and is currently at large. The suspect was last observed in the 700 block of P Street Northwest dressed in light pants and a blue shirt.

During a press conference on Sunday morning, Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll conveyed that preliminary information suggested that seven individuals were shot at the location, resulting in two fatalities.

An ongoing investigation has indicated that one or more suspects deliberately discharged a firearm at the victims.
