Arlington, Texas – A shooting outside a gentlemen’s club in Arlington left one man dead and another injured early Sunday morning, but the suspected shooter was released by police without facing criminal charges.
Police were called to the scene on Majesty Drive around 1:15 a.m. where they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Abel Alberto Rodriguez, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The altercation is believed to have started when the 40-year-old, who had past issues with the suspected shooter, confronted him at the club, leading to a verbal fight outside. Rodriguez, a friend of the older man, then got involved in the altercation, which escalated and ultimately resulted in shots being fired.
Although a firearm was found near the 40-year-old man, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the shooting may have been an act of self-defense. Following consultation with the district attorney’s office, police decided not to file charges against the suspected shooter on Sunday.
