Tampines, Singapore – Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident at a Tampines traffic junction on Monday morning. The fatalities included a 17-year-old female car passenger and a 57-year-old female van passenger, both of whom succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Additionally, six other individuals were conscious when transported to the hospital for treatment, ranging from car drivers to passengers in different vehicles involved in the collision.
In response to media inquiries, the 42-year-old male driver of the black car involved in the accident was discharged from the hospital and subsequently arrested for dangerous driving causing death. His driving license was immediately suspended as a result of the incident.
The driver’s erratic behavior was captured in dashcam footage posted on social media, showing the black car speeding and switching lanes recklessly along Tampines Avenue 1. Witnesses reported the black car overtaking vehicles without signaling properly before causing a collision with another vehicle further down the road. The aftermath of the accident involved a total of six vehicles, including a school bus where a male student was injured.
First responders from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene to find multiple individuals injured, with one person trapped under a car wheel. With the help of bystanders, including a nurse and off-duty SCDF officers, the injured were attended to promptly. The SCDF expressed their appreciation for the public’s assistance during the emergency.
Following the accident, four individuals were taken to Changi General Hospital, two to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, and two to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital for further treatment. The authorities are conducting investigations into the incident to determine the exact circumstances leading to the tragic collision.
