Hammer-wielding Thug Jailed for Violent Attack in Warwickshire

Leamington, Warwickshire – A violent attack involving a hammer and a knife left a victim with serious injuries and resulted in the arrest of two individuals. Jake Coop, 19, and a 16-year-old accomplice, whose identity is protected, planned to confront their target with the intention of stabbing him. The confrontation occurred on Tapping Way, where Coop struck the victim with a hammer after a verbal altercation. The 16-year-old brandished a large knife and chased one of the victim’s friends before the pair fled on bicycles.

Shortly after the attack, the victim collapsed and suffered a seizure, prompting a call for medical assistance. He was hospitalized and placed into a medically induced coma, but fortunately, a CT scan revealed no serious brain damage. The younger suspect was apprehended at his residence in Rugby in the early hours of the following day, while Coop turned himself in to Leamington Police Station later that same day. Both individuals were charged in connection with the violent incident.

At Warwick Crown Court, Coop pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon, resulting in a five-year custodial sentence. The court also found him guilty of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. The 16-year-old from Rugby received a four-year custodial sentence after admitting to possession of a bladed article and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.
