Manipur’s Kangpokpi Bridge Partially Damaged in IED Explosion, Disrupts Traffic

Imphal, Manipur – A bridge on National Highway 2 in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district suffered partial damage due to an explosion from an improvised explosive device (IED) early on Wednesday, causing disruptions to traffic flow in the area, authorities reported.

According to a statement released by the Manipur police, the IED blast occurred between the Sapermeina and Koubru Leikha areas around 12:45 am. The explosion resulted in severe physical damage, creating three craters and cracks at both ends of the bridge. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far from the incident.

As a result of the blast, heavy vehicle movement on the bridge connecting Imphal, the capital of Manipur, with Dimapur in Nagaland has been temporarily halted. The disruption in traffic has impacted commuters and transportation services traveling along National Highway 2.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the motive behind the IED explosion and identify those responsible for the attack. Ensuring the safety of the bridge and restoring smooth traffic flow are top priorities for officials in Kangpokpi district.
