London High Commission Attack Suspect Arrested by NIA in Delhi

New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant arrest on Thursday in connection to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London that occurred in March 2023. Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow in the United Kingdom, was taken into custody in Delhi for his alleged involvement in unlawful activities during the protests on March 22, 2023.

According to the NIA, investigations have uncovered that the attacks on March 19 and March 22 in London last year were part of a larger conspiracy aimed at launching vicious assaults on Indian missions and officials. These attacks were reportedly in retaliation to actions taken by the Punjab police against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh on March 18, 2023. In response, the NIA had conducted searches in August last year at various locations linked to individuals suspected in the March 19 attack on the High Commission in London.

The assault on the High Commission involved approximately 50 individuals who committed criminal trespass, disrespected India’s national flag, damaged public property, and caused injuries to High Commission officials. The agency previously stated that the attack was orchestrated by Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa in the UK, along with Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force, who passed away in a Birmingham hospital on June 15, 2023, Jasvir Singh, and their accompanying Indian and foreign associates.

In May last year, a NIA team was dispatched to the UK to collect evidence and conduct a “crowdsourcing of information” to identify and gather details on UK-based entities and individuals allegedly involved in the conspiracy. The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the series of events surrounding the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London and the subsequent protests.

The NIA’s efforts to unravel the motives behind the March 2023 incidents and to hold those responsible accountable demonstrate a commitment to maintaining diplomatic relations and upholding law and order in the face of such attacks. The arrest serves as a testament to the agency’s dedication to investigating transnational crimes and ensuring justice for all affected parties.
