Key Accused in Indian High Commission Attack Arrested by NIA in Delhi

New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made a significant arrest related to the violent attack on the Indian high commission in London last year. The suspect, identified as Inderpal Singh Gaba from Hounslow, United Kingdom, was apprehended upon his arrival in Delhi based on a lookout circular issued earlier against him.

This arrest marks a milestone as it is the first time a British resident has been arrested by the NIA for a crime that occurred under the jurisdiction of the United Kingdom. The coordination between law enforcement agencies of both countries has strengthened with this development, serving as a deterrent against future breaches of security or threats to Indian interests abroad.

The investigation by NIA indicates that the attacks in London in March of last year were part of a larger conspiracy to target Indian missions and officials. The incidents were believed to be retaliatory in nature following the arrest of a pro-Khalistan separatist by Punjab Police, which led to unrest and subsequent actions against the Indian high commission in London.

Among those involved in the attack were members of various groups both in India and abroad, identified as Gurcharan Singh, Dal Khalsa UK, Avtar Singh Khanda of KLF, and Jasvir Singh, along with their associates. NIA’s efforts included a visit to the UK to investigate the attack further, as well as issuing lookout circulars and launching a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators.

In a series of raids in Punjab and Haryana, NIA aimed to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy behind the attack. Additionally, the agency seized digital data containing vital information related to the accused individuals. The relentless pursuit to hold all those involved accountable demonstrates NIA’s commitment to bringing justice in the case and ensuring the safety of Indian missions worldwide.
