NIA Arrests Suspect Linked to Violent Attack on Indian High Commission in London

New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough on Thursday by apprehending an individual in connection to the violent attack on the High Commission of India in London back in March 2023. The arrest of Inderpal Singh Gaba from Hounslow, United Kingdom, sheds light on the unlawful activities that transpired during the subsequent protests following the attack.

According to NIA findings, the incidents in London were part of a larger conspiracy to carry out vicious assaults on Indian missions and officials. These attacks were reportedly in retaliation to the Punjab police’s actions against pro-Khalistani separatist Amritpal Singh. The agency disclosed that Gurcharan Singh of the Dal Khalsa, Avtar Singh Khanda of the Khalistan Liberation Force, Jasvir Singh, and their accomplices – both domestic and foreign nationals – orchestrated the attack on the High Commission.

In August of the previous year, NIA conducted searches at various locations associated with suspects involved in the violent incident. About 50 individuals were implicated in trespassing, disrespecting India’s national flag, damaging public property, and causing harm to officials at the High Commission. The agency had indicated earlier that the attack was orchestrated by organized groups.

Further investigations led to a NIA team being dispatched to the U.K. last May to gather evidence. Crowdsourcing of information was utilized to identify and gather details on U.K.-based entities and individuals linked to the alleged conspiracy. The collaborative efforts between agencies assisted in piecing together the events that transpired during the attack and protests in 2023.
