Breakthrough: New York Teenager “Midtown Jane Doe” Finally Identified After Decades

NEW YORK CITY, NY – After years of investigation, authorities have identified the remains of a teenager known as “Midtown Jane Doe” as Patricia Kathleen McGlone. McGlone, who was only 16 at the time of her death, was a resident of the Sunset Park neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, where she lived and attended school. Detective Ryan Glas of the New York City Police Department has been diligently working on this case for the past two years.

The case of Patricia Kathleen McGlone initially caught public attention in 2003 when construction workers made a gruesome discovery of human remains buried beneath a Manhattan building. The young woman, whose body was wrapped in a carpet and encased in concrete, had been tied in the fetal position with an electrical cord and died from strangulation. She was nicknamed “Midtown Jane Doe” due to the location where her remains were found, near the popular nightclub, Steve Paul’s The Scene, in Hell’s Kitchen.

Reopening the case in 2017, New York City police detectives utilized modern forensic tests and DNA analysis on the victim’s remains. After creating a genetic profile, they managed to link the DNA to potential relatives through investigative genetic genealogy. Through interviews and extensive research, Glas was able to track down a cousin of McGlone, whose DNA sample confirmed the young woman’s identity.

McGlone, who had been a student at both Catholic and public schools in Sunset Park, was noted as a runaway and truant leading up to her death. She got married around that time and had minimal contact with her family, with no missing persons reports filed after her disappearance. The investigation is ongoing to uncover more details surrounding McGlone’s murder, with police urging anyone with information about her, her family, or the area where she was found to come forward.

Although no suspects have been named, investigators are looking into McGlone’s former husband, who had ties to the building where her remains were discovered. The New York City Police Department is actively seeking assistance from the public to piece together the events leading to McGlone’s tragic death.
