DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – An 18-year-old woman from DeKalb County is facing charges of homicide by vehicle and driving under the influence in connection to a tragic crash earlier this year that claimed the life of her friend. Hannah Hackemeyer has been charged with multiple offenses related to the incident that resulted in the death of Sophie Lekiachvili, also 18 years old.
Police have issued warrants for Hackemeyer, including charges of homicide by vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence for a person under 21, reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane. The fatal crash occurred on Oak Grove Road on Feb. 24, taking the life of Lekiachvili and injuring another teenager who was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
According to reports, Hackemeyer lost control of her SUV, which led to a collision with a tree causing the vehicle to overturn. Investigators have determined that speed played a role in the crash. Lekiachvili, who was seated in the front passenger seat, was tragically trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second teen involved in the crash sustained injuries as well.
