Domestic Dispute Claims Portland Woman’s Life, Third Murder Victim of 2024

PORTLAND, Jamaica—Authorities in Portland, Jamaica are investigating the tragic death of 46-year-old Merylin Whyte, who is believed to be the victim of a domestic dispute. Whyte, a resident of Comfort Castle in the parish, was found dead in her home with multiple stab wounds to her chest and abdomen.

The incident, which occurred between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm, marks the third murder in Portland for the year. Police are now searching for Richard Gray, also known as ‘Otis,’ who is the father of Whyte’s baby and a resident of Mill Bank in Portland. Authorities believe Gray may have information crucial to their investigation.

According to reports, Donovan Gray, the brother of Richard Gray, discovered Whyte’s lifeless body upon returning home from work at around 7:00 pm. The house was dark when he arrived, but upon entering and turning on the lights, he found Whyte’s body in the kitchen area. Richard Gray was nowhere to be found at the scene.

Upon further investigation, authorities found evidence of a struggle in the living room, bathroom, and kitchen, all of which were stained with blood. Whyte was rushed to Port Antonio Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

This tragic event has prompted the police to launch a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Whyte’s death. The community is reeling from the loss, as the murder count in Portland now exceeds that of the same period last year.
