FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky provided updates on the aftermath of severe storms that swept through the state on April 2, resulting in multiple EF1 tornadoes and significant damage. Tragically, one weather-related death occurred in Campbell County following a two-vehicle accident. The National Weather Service confirmed the presence of EF1 tornadoes in several counties, including Nelson, Anderson, Jessamine, Boyd, Bourbon, Henry, Mason, and Clark. Additionally, EF2 damage was reported in the Prospect area near Louisville in Jefferson County.
As recovery efforts continue, crews are diligently assessing the extent of the damage across the affected areas. Governor Beshear emphasized the widespread impact of the storms, stating that it will take time and effort to fully evaluate the damage and determine potential eligibility for federal assistance. The Governor declared a state of emergency on April 2 and activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate response efforts effectively.
The storms left a trail of destruction in more than 20 counties, with thousands of Kentuckians currently without power as a result. Despite the challenges faced, Governor Beshear expressed gratitude for the unity and support demonstrated by communities coming together to assist those in need. Residents are urged to report damages to local county emergency management officials and document the extent of the destruction before initiating cleanup efforts.
