Shooting at Southwest Philadelphia Graduation Party Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – A shooting incident in Southwest Philadelphia on Saturday night resulted in one fatality and left three others injured. The incident occurred outside a home on the 1000 block of South 51st Street around 6:30 p.m.

According to police reports, the victims included two juveniles and two adults who were found with gunshot wounds at the scene. A 23-year-old was shot in the leg, while two 17-year-olds sustained arm and body gunshot wounds, and an 18-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the face.

Authorities revealed that the shooting seemed to have taken place from both sides of the street, and it is uncertain if any of the victims were involved in the shooting themselves. The 18-year-old victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Two other victims, a 17-year-old and the 23-year-old, were also taken to Penn Presbyterian in stable condition. Additionally, another 17-year-old was initially taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before being transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in critical condition.

At the scene, numerous shell casings were found on both sides of the street. Inspector D.F. Pace from the Philadelphia police mentioned that the crime scene contained around 25 or 26 spent shell casings. A family gathering, potentially a graduation party, was taking place at a residence on the block when the shooting occurred.

Police believe that no one inside the home was shot, but several homes on both sides of the street and parked cars were hit by gunfire. Authorities suspect that when shots were fired, someone fled inside the residence, now part of the ongoing investigation.

While no arrests have been made, authorities recovered a weapon at the scene. The victim’s identity has not been disclosed as investigations continue. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
