RED LAKE, Minnesota – A tragic incident unfolded in Red Lake Nation back in March, resulting in the death of two children and subsequent charges of murder, arson, and child neglect against a Red Lake woman. Jennifer Marie Stately, 35, allegedly attacked and killed the children by slashing them with a sharp object before setting fire to the house they were in. One child was fatally stabbed in the chest, while the other succumbed to smoke inhalation from the fire.
Following the heinous act, Stately fled the scene with a third child. An AMBER Alert was issued for the missing child, leading to a motorist spotting Stately’s vehicle and alerting law enforcement. When the vehicle was located on U.S. Highway 71 in Todd County, Stately was found with the 3-year-old boy in the car, who was covered in scabs and sores. The child displayed signs of neglect, torture, and abuse, prompting Stately’s arrest.
An indictment against Stately includes charges of premeditated murder, murder during child abuse, murder during arson, arson, and felony child neglect. Appearing in U.S. District Court on May 6, she was ordered to remain in custody pending further legal proceedings, highlighting the seriousness of the allegations she faces.
