Explosion at Hidden Crest Drive Claims One Life: Investigation Underway

Somerset, Kentucky – Authorities are currently conducting an investigation following a tragic explosion that resulted in the death of a resident on Hidden Crest Drive last Saturday morning. The incident claimed the life of Chris Fineberg, 43, who was killed in an explosion that completely destroyed an outbuilding/shed in the area around 10 a.m.

According to Pulaski Director of Emergency Management Director Don Franklin, the shed where the explosion occurred contained fireworks, with the ignition source still under investigation. Fineberg, who worked as a supervisor at AHF Manufacturing, was known to have a side business creating and selling fireworks, particularly around the Fourth of July holiday, as mentioned by acquaintances on social media.

Reports indicate that two other individuals were injured as a result of the explosion, although no further details on their condition have been made available as of Monday afternoon. In addition to the destruction of the shed, Fineberg’s residence suffered damage, along with other properties in the vicinity, as confirmed by Franklin.

The area surrounding the explosion site, with a debris field spanning approximately 200 yards, has been cordoned off by authorities, who are urging the public to steer clear of the location if possible. Additionally, individuals in the area are advised not to touch any debris they come across but to notify the appropriate authorities, such as the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms) or other local agencies.

Residents in the neighborhood, including David Daring who resides nearby, recalled hearing a loud explosion followed by crackling sounds, with visuals of smoke and light emitting from the scene. The reverberations of the explosion were reportedly audible for several miles, leading to the closure of the area for several hours while investigations took place.

Law enforcement agencies including the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, Somerset Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and various fire departments responded to the incident. The ATF is currently leading the investigation into the cause of the explosion, while the death inquiry is being spearheaded by Sergeant Ron Hellard.
