Teen Arrested in Fatal Shooting of Woman in South L.A. Street Crime

Los Angeles, California – A 14-year-old girl has been taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department in connection with the shooting death of Kendra McIntyre, a 20-year-old woman fatally shot on a street corner in South L.A.

The suspect, only identified as Liniya M., was arrested just days after the incident that occurred in the early hours of March 21 at the intersection of 70th and Figueroa streets. The LAPD’s homicide detectives quickly identified and apprehended the teenage girl less than a mile away from the crime scene.

Charges of murder have been filed against Liniya M., but authorities have not disclosed a possible motive behind the shooting or whether the suspect acted alone. The suspect’s arraignment took place at a Los Angeles County Superior Court, where a judge ordered her to remain in custody until her next court appearance later in the month.

Amid the investigation, details surrounding McIntyre’s presence at the particular street corner where the shooting occurred remain unclear, leaving many unanswered questions. Her mother, Debra Rush, suspects that her daughter may have been coerced into sex work by local gang members before the tragic event took place.

Rush, who founded the nonprofit organization Breaking the Chains to assist victims of sex trafficking, described McIntyre as a compassionate and talented individual who struggled with mental health issues. Despite McIntyre’s challenging upbringing, which included incidents of abuse and violence, she managed to graduate from high school early and secure employment at a hospital.

As the community mourns McIntyre’s untimely death, loved ones have come together to support Rush through a GoFundMe campaign aimed at covering funeral expenses. Those with any information regarding the shooting are urged to contact LAPD’s South Bureau Homicide Division or submit anonymous tips to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers.

The circumstances surrounding McIntyre’s tragic death shed light on the ongoing issue of sex trafficking and the vulnerabilities faced by individuals like her. Through continued advocacy efforts and community support, McIntyre’s legacy will serve as a reminder of the importance of addressing mental health challenges and providing resources for those in need.
