Standoff with Murder Suspect Ends in Arrest After Houston Gas Station Shooting

Houston, Texas – A man accused of a deadly shooting near the Museum District led authorities on a standoff in Harris County, ending in his arrest on Wednesday night.

Officials identified the suspect as Tilford Anthony Joseph, 46, who was apprehended after barricading himself in an apartment complex in west Harris County. According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies responded to a weapons disturbance call at the complex on Westborough Drive, where the suspect locked himself inside the apartment.

Gonzalez stated that during the standoff, they discovered that Joseph was wanted for murder and aggravated assault of a peace officer related to the shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident after negotiations.

The chaotic events unfolded early Tuesday morning when witnesses, including Houston Fire Department paramedics, saw a man fatally shooting a woman during a domestic violence altercation at a gas station near the Museum District. The suspect then engaged in a shootout with a deputy, stole his vehicle, returned to the scene, and fired more shots.

Following the tragic incident, the victim was identified as Teresa Houston, 44, an Alvin ISD staff member. Investigators revealed that the suspect had a history of domestic violence with the victim, although his name was not initially disclosed.

Authorities reported that the deputy constable, who engaged in the shootout with the suspect, sustained minor injuries after falling and hitting his head. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation and is expected to recover. The suspect’s arrest followed an intense standoff that put the community on edge.
