Knife-wielding Man Receives Life Sentence for “Frenzied” Street Attack in Wembley

Wembley, United Kingdom – A man has been sentenced to life in prison after carrying out a brutal knife attack on a woman in a “frenzied” assault on the street. Itesh Ira, 35, from Belmont Avenue, Wembley, attempted to kill his victim by stabbing her multiple times in the face, neck, and body with such force that he broke the knife he was using, leaving her for dead on the pavement.

The horrific incident took place on Mount Pleasant in Wembley, where Ira waited for his victim to finish work late at night before launching the vicious attack. CCTV footage captured the chilling moment when Ira not only stabbed the victim frenziedly but also proceeded to stomp on her head after she fell to the ground, motionless.

Only when a brave witness intervened and confronted Ira, causing him to flee the scene, did the attack come to a halt. This courageous act was later recognized by the authorities, acknowledging the witness for saving the woman’s life.

Police responded to the scene in the early hours of the morning following reports of a woman being repeatedly stabbed. The victim was found barely conscious on the pavement, suffering from numerous stab wounds to her face, neck, and body. A bloodstained knife, broken due to the intensity of the attack, was also discovered nearby.

An extensive investigation led authorities to identify Ira as the suspect, ultimately resulting in his surrender at Wembley Police Station. The victim, who was acquainted with Ira, was hospitalized for several weeks to receive treatment for her extensive injuries, including lacerations, facial wounds, fractures, and significant head injuries.

During his court proceedings, Ira initially pleaded guilty to attempted murder and weapon possession but later attempted to retract his plea, claiming innocence. Despite his efforts, overwhelming evidence led to his conviction, resulting in a life sentence with a minimum prison term of 16 years and 9 months.

Detective Sergeant Mitesh Mulji, from the North West Command’s Public Protection Unit, emphasized the seriousness of the crime and commended the victim’s bravery in supporting the prosecution. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing priority to address violence against women and girls, ensuring that perpetrators of domestic abuse are held accountable for their actions.
