Santa Rosa, California – A 38-year-old man from Santa Rosa has been sentenced to life in prison for attempting to kill the mother of his children in 2020, announced the Sonoma County District Attorney on Friday.
Adrian Cervantes-Alvarez received a six-year sentence for the attempted murder charge, but due to it being his third strike under California’s Three Strikes law, his sentence was extended to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole in 27 years.
In February, Cervantes-Alvarez was convicted of the attack that took place in August 2020. During the incident, he stabbed the victim multiple times with a pair of grooming scissors in the presence of their children. The assault came to an end when a neighbor intervened, as stated by the District Attorney’s Office.
Additionally, a 10-year criminal protection order was issued for the victim, which authorities highlighted as the maximum allowed by law.
