Centreville, Virginia – A fatal shooting during what authorities believe was a possible drug deal in Centreville has left one man dead and another critically injured. The incident took place around 9:30 a.m. in the parking lot of a shopping center on Route 29, as reported by Fairfax County police.
At a news conference, Capt. Kent Bailey indicated that initial investigations point towards the shooting being linked to illegal narcotics transactions. Initially, the suspect had fled on foot, but authorities have since confirmed his whereabouts.
Both individuals involved in the shooting have been identified and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Police recovered two firearms at the scene, believed to be owned by the individuals involved.
The victim who was shot on site succumbed to his injuries, while another victim was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening wounds. Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds to the upper body, with no other casualties reported.
Law enforcement officials continue to scrutinize the crime scene for any potential evidence related to the shooting and alleged drug transaction. Authorities have chosen not to disclose the identities of the victims at this time.
