ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – After a violent mob attacked foreign students in Kyrgyzstan, the Pakistani government has taken swift action to ensure the safety and repatriation of affected students. In response to the distressing incident that endangered many students, the government initiated evacuation efforts to bring the students back home promptly.
Upon the arrival of 170 students on Monday, marking a total of 540 evacuated students, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that the government had arranged four daily flights to facilitate the safe return of students. Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to the students’ welfare and educational continuity.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced the organization of three commercial flights to repatriate the remaining 540 students. The Pakistan Air Force also mobilized a special flight with a capacity of around 130 students to ensure their safe return. Constant communication was maintained with the students to keep them informed about available flights.
The violent clashes in Bishkek erupted following a brawl between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students, leading to mob attacks on hostels and private lodgings where international students resided. As a result, five Pakistani students were injured, prompting heightened security measures and increased police presence to protect all students.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed officials to monitor the situation closely and ensure the safe return of injured students and their families. Diplomatic efforts were made to coordinate with Kyrgyz authorities, emphasizing the importance of student safety and accountability for the perpetrators of violence. Despite a cancelled visit to Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar shared assurances from Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Zheenbek Kulubaev that the situation was being closely monitored.
The Kyrgyz government took actions to arrest individuals involved in the attacks and heightened security at student hostels to prevent further harm. Minister Attaullah Tarar condemned the spread of misinformation by a political party, causing unnecessary panic among parents, reaffirming the government’s prompt response and diligent measures to ensure the safety of Pakistani students abroad.
In ongoing liaison with Kyrgyz authorities, the Pakistani government is committed to safeguarding its nationals and ensuring their secure return.
