Arrested Man Receives Jail Sentence for Violently Strangling Partner in Lincolnshire Village

A man was sentenced to over three years in prison in Lincolnshire, England after a violent incident involving strangling his partner and attempting to hit her with a brick. William Gray, 31, of Wisbech, was involved in a heated argument with his partner on July 17, 2023, which escalated to physical violence.

Gray assaulted the victim by grabbing her by the throat and pushing her against a wall before dragging her into a bedroom, where he proceeded to choke her and punch her. The victim was able to push Gray out of the house and lock the door, but he retaliated by throwing a brick at the fence and kicking the door. Upon opening the door to prevent further damage, Gray pushed her back into the bedroom and attempted to strike her with the brick.

Despite suffering minor injuries, the woman managed to defend herself and Gray eventually left the scene. However, he returned with another brick and damaged a mirror before fleeing once more. Gray was later arrested in Greatford, a village near Stamford, on December 12, 2023.

During his trial at Cambridge Crown Court on May 24, 2024, Gray was found guilty of intentional strangulation, actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and two counts of criminal damage. He was subsequently sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, along with a 10-year restraining order. Detective Sergeant Lee Lombardo of Cambridgeshire Police expressed hope that the sentence would bring some peace of mind to the victim, emphasizing the priority of addressing domestic abuse and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.
