Explosion Survivor Update: Two Youngstown Victims Hospitalized, One Fatality

Emergency crews responded to the incident at 47 E. Federal Street around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, where Drake’s body was discovered later that same evening around 11:30 p.m. The cause of his death will be determined by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is actively investigating the explosion, with a focus on the pipeline and hazardous materials involved.

The NTSB’s pipeline and hazardous materials division typically handles cases related to accidents during the transportation of natural gas and other dangerous liquids through pipelines, particularly in instances involving fatalities, significant property damage, or environmental impact. Their investigation process includes issuing a preliminary report within a few weeks of the incident, with a final report expected to be completed within 12 to 24 months.
