Abuses in Indian Kashmir Continue: Pakistan Demands Accountability for Custodial Deaths and Condemns Actions in Gaza and Al-Aqsa

Islamabad, Pakistan – Pakistan reiterated its demand for India to be held accountable for ongoing human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir region. Over the past three decades, more than 7,000 Kashmiris have reportedly died in Indian custody.

During a recent press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized the urgency of addressing custodial deaths in the region. She called for those responsible for these crimes to be held accountable, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for a just and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.

In addition to addressing the situation in Kashmir, Pakistan also highlighted its recent election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026. With overwhelming support from 182 members of the UN General Assembly, Pakistan expressed its gratitude to the Asia Pacific Group for their confidence.

Moving forward, Pakistan stated its commitment to playing a constructive role in the peaceful resolution of disputes, opposing unilateral force, combating terrorism, supporting UN peacekeeping efforts, and promoting democracy and accountability. The spokesperson strongly condemned the recent attacks on Palestinian civilians by Israeli forces, calling them grave violations of international law and war crimes.

Furthermore, Pakistan expressed concern over the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli extremists and called for respect for religious sites. The country reiterated its call for an urgent and unconditional ceasefire to prevent further civilian casualties and hold Israel accountable for its actions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar was scheduled to attend an extraordinary meeting of the D8 Council of Foreign Ministers in Istanbul to address the situation in Gaza. Pakistan aimed to discuss the international community’s shared responsibility for ending the conflict and providing humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza.

The article also touched upon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China, where both countries signed 23 Memorandums of Understanding to deepen cooperation in various areas. The leaders reaffirmed their support for the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and pledged to protect it from detractors. Additionally, they reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan.
