CARTERET, New Jersey – A young man from Washington state is facing serious charges after a tragic shooting incident in Carteret that left one woman dead and another critically injured.
Gaurav Gill, a 19-year-old from Kent, Washington, has been charged with first-degree murder, along with several other weapon-related charges in connection to the shootings. The incident took place outside a home on Roosevelt Avenue in Carteret, where the two women were found with gunshot wounds to their abdomen and back.
The victims were quickly airlifted to trauma centers, where 29-year-old Jasvir Kaur succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The other victim, a 20-year-old woman, remains in critical condition at University Hospital in Newark.
Following the shooting, a manhunt ensued, leading to the eventual discovery and arrest of the suspect in a residential backyard just minutes away from the crime scene. Witnesses described the intense moment when heavily-armed police confronted the suspect, urging him to surrender.
