Shooting Tragedy Strikes Maryland Car Meet: Two Men Found Fatally Shot

ACCOKEEK, Md. – A tragic shooting incident occurred at a car meetup in Accokeek, Maryland, where two men were found fatally shot on Thursday night, according to Prince George’s County police.

The authorities were alerted to the shooting around 11:45 p.m. in a shopping center parking lot on Berry Road, where they discovered the bodies of two Maryland men identified as Sheldon Proctor, 48, from Waldorf, and Patrick Savoy, 55, from Charlotte Hall. A third man sustained gunshot wounds and took himself to a hospital for treatment, with his injuries reported as non-life-threatening.

Efforts to contact the families of the victims were unsuccessful, but a woman claiming to be Proctor’s sister described him as a kind-hearted individual who used a motorized scooter due to a disability. She fondly remembered him as the “nicest guy” with a “prettiest smile” who loved everyone.

This tragic triple shooting marks the second deadly incident at a car gathering in recent weeks in Prince George’s County. Just on May 19, a man named John Phipps, 26, became an unintended victim in a shooting incident related to a driver’s reckless behavior during a car meetup in District Heights, as per police charging documents.

While the District Heights event was described by police as illegal and involving dangerous activities with vehicles, stolen cars, and firearms, the car meet in Accokeek was known to be a more organized affair, attracting an older crowd of regular attendees who gathered to showcase their well-maintained vehicles.

One regular attendee, Frankie Ibey, who has been familiar with the Accokeek meetup for over a decade, mentioned that the event typically drew in participants who arrived around 6 p.m. and departed by 9 p.m. The atmosphere was calm, with car owners proudly displaying their vehicles while enthusiasts engaged in conversations about their shared passion for automobiles.

Ibey, who decided not to attend the tragic meetup due to a knee injury, expressed concern over the escalating violence at such events. He emphasized the importance of avoiding conflicts and the risks associated with bringing firearms to public gatherings.

Police are currently investigating the motive behind the shooting and working diligently to identify the person or persons responsible for the tragic deaths. Aaron Schaffer contributed to the comprehensive report on this devastating incident.
