Man Admits to Killing 3-Year-Old Louisiana Girl, Accomplice Faces Capital Murder Charge

JACKSON, Miss. — In a tragic turn of events, a man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 3-year-old Louisiana girl. Daniel Callihan, taken into custody by authorities in Jackson, has reportedly confessed to the crime. The young girl, Erin Brunett, was allegedly killed by Callihan, who also stands accused of murdering the girl’s mother, Callie Brunett, in Tangipahoa Parish before fleeing with Erin and her sister.

Following intense questioning, Callihan admitted to the crime, stating, “Unfortunately, on Lexapro, sober, no drugs in my system, I did it.” It appears that Victoria Cox, a woman allegedly involved in the incident, has also been arrested and is facing a severe capital murder charge. Cox was apprehended at a nearby hotel, a short distance away from the horrific crime scene where Erin Brunett’s lifeless body was discovered.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade has indicated that the surviving sibling, Erin’s 6-year-old sister, was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, she was later reunited with her grandparents and returned to Louisiana. Authorities are exploring the relationship between Cox and Callihan, suggesting that Cox could be Callihan’s girlfriend. They are working diligently to determine her exact involvement and ensure she is held accountable for her role in this tragic chain of events that spanned across different locations.

The possibility of Callihan’s extradition to Louisiana remains uncertain due to the discovery of a potential human trafficking site by the Jackson police, alongside a separate ongoing homicide investigation in Mississippi. The FBI has taken charge of the investigation, with agents returning to the crime scene to gather further evidence in the search for justice. The FBI is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to deploy all available resources and assist the survivors affected by this unspeakable tragedy.

In a public statement, the FBI has urged anyone with information that could aid in the investigation to come forward and contact them. The authorities are committed to seeking justice for Erin Brunett and her family, ensuring that those responsible for these heinous acts are brought to justice. The collaboration between different law enforcement agencies underscores the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and deliver closure to the affected families.
