Rochester Hills, Michigan – A horrifying scene unfolded on a Saturday afternoon at a splash pad in Rochester Hills when a “random” gunman opened fire, injuring nine individuals. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard reported that the gunman, a 42-year-old White male, fired 28 gunshots from a handgun at the streetside park before being found dead in a Shelby Township home.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as the alleged shooter may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while surrounded by police. Sheriff Bouchard revealed that the police were unable to establish full communication with the suspect, despite attempts to contact him.
Authorities recovered the handgun used in the shooting, registered to the suspect, along with additional weapons in his home. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement officials process the scene and gather evidence.
Among the victims were an eight-year-old boy in critical condition, a 4-year-old boy in stable condition, and a 39-year-old woman also in critical condition. The shooting impacted one family, as two boys and a woman were among those injured.
