ROCK HILL, S.C. – Tragedy struck on a bustling Rock Hill road when a woman was fatally shot by a colleague in what authorities described as a self-defense incident. The confrontation escalated after the woman and her girlfriend reportedly attempted to block the man’s escape during an altercation.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday on Riverwalk Parkway near Cel-River Road, leaving the community shocked and law enforcement piecing together the chain of events that led to the fatality and subsequent murder charges.
Police reports indicate that 39-year-old Samarian Lindsay and a male co-worker initially engaged in a dispute, the details of which remain under confidentiality as part of the ongoing investigation. Following the altercation, Lindsay entered her girlfriend’s vehicle, and they maneuvered it to obstruct the man’s car amidst traffic.
32-year-old Brittney Reed, who was driving the vehicle in which Lindsay was a passenger, is alleged to have intentionally blocked the man to provoke a confrontation. Authorities suggest that Reed understood the gravity of the situation — foreseeing that the obstruction could lead to a dangerous outcome.
Approaching the blocked vehicle from the passenger side, Lindsay reportedly brandished a firearm. Faced with an immediate threat, the coworker retrieved his own gun and fired multiple shots, striking Lindsay in the chest.
Despite being wounded, the confrontation continued as Reed allegedly exited her car and physically assaulted the man, punching him in the face. Lindsay was hurried to Piedmont Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Following a preliminary investigation, police have determined the shooting was an act of self-defense, thereby absolving the man from potential charges related to Lindsay’s death. Further details reveal that Reed had provided Lindsay with the firearm and was aware of her intent to use it during the conflict, implicating her further in the events that unfolded.
Consequently, Reed faces charges of murder and assault and battery. The charges stem not only from her physical assault but also from her role in facilitating the armed confrontation.
Investigators recovered two firearms at the scene, which are undergoing analysis as part of the forensic examination. Autopsy and toxicology reports are pending for Lindsay, and these could provide more insights into the circumstances of her death.
Rock Hill Police continue their detailed investigation into the incident to unravel more about the motive and the sequence of events that led to this fatal outcome. This case has gripped the local community, raising questions about self-defense laws and the dramatic escalation of workplace disputes.
