Fatal Justice: Driver Faces Murder Charges After Allegedly Targeting Vacaville Officer On Duty

VACAVILLE, Calif. — A tragic incident last week has led to serious legal repercussions for a 24-year-old Auburn woman, who is accused of deliberately running over a Vacaville police officer with her vehicle, resulting in his death. The Solano County District Attorney’s Office has charged Serena C.J. Rodriguez, also known as Kali about Rose Kahn, with felony murder, including special enhancements for the killing of a law enforcement officer while on duty.

The altercation occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday when Officer Matthew Bowen, a motorcycle officer, was performing a traffic stop at the junction of Leisure Town Road and Orange Drive. Authorities stated that Rodriguez’s vehicle struck Officer Bowen from behind. Despite immediate medical assistance at the scene, Bowen succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital.

Following the incident, Rodriguez allegedly attempted to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by bystanders who detained her until law enforcement took over. She was subsequently arrested and faces charges of driving under the influence causing injury and/or death. Currently, Rodriguez is being held without bail.

As the community reels from this loss, two fundraising initiatives have been established to support Officer Bowen’s family during this challenging time. These funds aim to provide financial assistance and honor Bowen’s service and sacrifice.

The legal proceedings for Rodriguez have begun, with her arraignment initially scheduled for Monday, but it has been postponed until July 22. During this time, the prosecution is expected to present evidence that Rodriguez intentionally targeted Officer Bowen, making this a critical case that highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face while performing their duties.

This case has deeply affected the local community and the law enforcement fraternity, sparking discussions on the dangers faced by police officers and the rising concerns over targeted attacks against them. As the court proceedings unfold, many are calling for justice for Officer Bowen and a thorough examination of the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.

Vacaville police and the California Highway Patrol continue to investigate the matter, urging witnesses and anyone with further information to come forward to assist with the ongoing case. As this legal battle progresses, it remains a poignant reminder of the risks taken by those who work to protect and serve.
