Former President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that he had been indicted once more, this time for allegedly mishandling over 300 classified documents. According to Trump, his lawyers have been informed about an indictment that seems to be connected to the documents taken by the FBI during the search of his Mar-a-Lago property in August. According to a post on Truth Social, a social media platform started by Trump, he has been called to attend a hearing at the Federal Courthouse in Miami, Florida, on June 13th at 3 p.m.
According to ABC News, the indictment includes multiple counts, such as conspiracy, willful retention of national defense information, and false statements.
In response to the indictment, the former president immediately drew attention to classified documents allegedly found in President Joe Biden’s home in Delaware and his office at the University of Pennsylvania. Trump wrote on Truth Social that the Biden administration had informed his attorneys about the indictment. He mentioned that Biden has numerous boxes of documents at the University of Delaware, additional boxes in Chinatown, D.C., more boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents scattered on his garage floor where his Corvette is parked. He criticized the security measures in place and emphasized his innocence.
Trump released a video on Truth Social, proclaiming his innocence and describing the indictment as the “greatest witch hunt of all time.” He accused it of being an attempt to interfere in the 2024 election. He expressed disappointment over the state of the nation, stating that despite being a popular president who received the most votes of any sitting president in history, he continues to be targeted with hoaxes. Trump referred to the Russia investigation and other instances, claiming that this has been going on for seven years and constitutes election interference at a significant level.
On Thursday, federal prosecutors notified Trump’s legal team about an investigation into his alleged mishandling of the documents. Additionally, Trump faced another indictment from a Manhattan grand jury concerning allegations of paying hush money to Stormy Daniels, a former porn actress, to keep her silent about an alleged affair during the 2020 presidential election.
In August, the FBI raided Trump’s home and retrieved 15 boxes of classified documents that had been requested by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The documents included binders, a handwritten note, an executive grant of clemency for Roger Stone, information on the president of France, and binders of photographs. Trump argued that these documents were already declassified and stored safely in his home in an August 12th statement.
In November, classified documents were discovered by Biden’s lawyers at the Penn Biden Center, where he had an office during his vice presidency. Subsequently, additional documents from the Obama-Biden era were found in Biden’s private garage in Delaware in January. Also in January, documents were discovered in Pence’s Indiana home as well. Some Republicans have taken to calling the DOJ a two-tier justice system.
