JACKSONVILLE, FL – Authorities in Jacksonville, Florida are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the Coopers Hawk Apartment Homes on Old St. Augustine Road in the Mandarin area. The victim, a 16-year-old boy, was pronounced dead at the scene following the incident late Friday evening.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), the shooting took place after a large party moved to the apartment complex from a different location. A fight broke out between two groups, resulting in gunfire. It is unclear whether the teenager was the intended target or was involved in the altercation.
At least 10 shots were fired, raising questions about the possibility of multiple shooters. JSO has since interviewed around 7 individuals, predominantly teenagers, who are considered witnesses to the event. The authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
Haraka Carswell, the founder of Silent Women Speaking, commented on the tragic incident, expressing the need to take action against gun violence. “Families are hurting, it’s the holidays, instead of preparing for a new year, mom has to prepare for a burial,” Carswell said.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and JSO is asking for the public’s assistance in solving the case. They can be reached by phone at 904-630-0500, via email at [email protected], or through Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
