A pro-Putin politician in Russia has been found dead under strange circumstances, adding to a series of mysterious deaths involving Russian elites. Vladimir Egorov, a member of the ruling United Russia party, is the latest in a string of such incidents. At 46, Egorov was found in a courtyard outside his home in Tobolsk, central Russia, after reportedly falling from a third-floor window.
Russian media reported that there were no external signs of criminal death on Egorov’s body. The Investigative Committee for the Tyumen region stated that an autopsy is being conducted to confirm the circumstances surrounding the deputy’s death. Meanwhile, the Tobolsk City Duma released an obituary attributing Egorov’s death to an accident.
The late politician had been involved in a previous corruption scandal but was not convicted. He was pushed out of the city administration in 2016 but returned to politics in 2020. His death marks another in a series of mysterious deaths within Vladimir Putin’s inner circle since the war in Ukraine began.
In a similar incident, the deputy editor of a Russian tabloid newspaper, Anna Tsavera, died under mysterious circumstances. Found by her parents in her Moscow apartment, initial reports indicate no signs of a struggle or violent death, but she had reportedly complained of feeling unwell the day before. Tsavera’s boss, Vladimir Sungorkin, had also died suddenly during a business trip. Another notable figure, Ravil Maganov, the chairman of Russia’s second-biggest oil and gas company, had also died after falling out of a hospital window in Moscow.
These deaths contribute to the speculation surrounding Vladimir Putin’s inner circle and bring into question the circumstances surrounding their deaths. The investigation into these incidents continues, seeking to shed light on the mysterious tragedies.
