BALTIMORE (AP) — A mother is speaking out about the need for change following the tragic mass shooting in Brooklyn Day. Krystal Gonzalez, mother of Aaliyah Gonzalez, who was killed in the shooting, sat down with Vincent Hill of Fox45 to discuss the tragedy and her hopes for the future.
Gonzalez vividly recounted the day of the shooting, expressing her shock at the loss of her daughter and the need to address the ongoing issue of juvenile violence. While arrests have been made in connection to the shooting, no one has been charged with Aaliyah’s murder.
Gonzalez criticized the management of resources, pointing out that some of the offenders at Brooklyn Day had ankle monitors on, yet were still allowed to be arrested and released. With the next legislative session only two weeks away, she emphasized the importance of implementing changes to juvenile violence, particularly within the education system.
She stressed the urgent need for gun violence prevention education in schools, noting the lack of laws mandating such education. As she continues to advocate for change, Gonzalez’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence on families and communities. Aaliyah Gonzalez’s tragic death is a stark example of the need for concrete measures to address the issue of juvenile violence and gun violence prevention.
