TROUTMAN, N.C. – A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon as a small plane crashed near Troutman, claiming the life of the pilot. The pilot, identified as Randy Mysliviec, was a resident of Mooresville. The crash occurred as the pilot attempted to land at Lake Norman Airport.
First responders rushed to the scene on Adrian Lane following reports of the small plane crash. Despite the efforts of personnel from multiple emergency response teams including Troutman Fire-Rescue, Mooresville Fire-Rescue, Shepherds Fire-Rescue, Iredell County EMS, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, and the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the pilot, Randy Mysliviec, could not be saved.
The small plane collided with several trees before crashing into the site of an abandoned home. Mysliviec was trapped inside the aircraft, leading crews to use hydraulic tools and cutters to extricate him. He was then transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center by Iredell County EMS, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the crash, which will bring to light crucial details about the circumstances that led to this unfortunate tragedy.
