WANTED: Decatur Police Seek Man in Connection to Animal Cruelty Charges

DECATUR, Ill. — Police in Decatur are in pursuit of a man sought for animal cruelty. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control responded to a residence near the intersections of East Whitmer Street and South Jasper Street on Dec. 11. Upon arrival, they discovered two deceased puppies and one malnourished puppy in the backyard. The animals were found without access to heat, food, or water.

The case was then handed over to Decatur Police, who subsequently identified the owner of the dogs as 53-year-old Derrick Tyus. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on three counts of Cruel Treatment.
