Indianapolis, Indiana – A local man was detained by police after he reportedly shot his pregnant estranged wife in an Indianapolis residence, resulting in critical injuries to her and the death of the unborn child. Police were summoned to a home in the 700 block of East Pleasant Run Parkway at approximately 6 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered 25-year-old Kayla Netherland in a bathroom, suffering from several gunshot wounds. She was quickly rushed to a hospital, where doctors were able to stabilize her condition but, tragically, could not save her unborn baby.
According to court documents, a friend of Netherland, who had come over to do laundry, witnessed the harrowing incident. She reported seeing Jeremy McBride, 36, the estranged husband of Netherland, standing over her before he fled the scene. This testimony led police to promptly identify McBride as the suspect.
Utilizing advanced license plate recognition technology, law enforcement was able to locate McBride shortly after the incident. During his arrest, McBride’s vehicle collided with a pole as he failed to secure it properly while surrendering to the police. He reportedly asked officers about Netherland’s condition upon his arrest.
