DETROIT, MI – In a shocking development, a Detroit man has been charged with a federal gun offense linked to a brutal triple homicide that claimed the lives of three people, including a child. Edward Redding, 29, was captured on Sunday after a dramatic police chase in the city.
Federal prosecutors have named Redding as the prime suspect in the murders of his ex-girlfriend, her mother, and her 9-year-old niece. The victims were found in a torched vehicle, a discovery that has sent shockwaves through the community.
Redding, appearing in court shackled and in a beige jumpsuit, has been charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The charge is connected to the horrific events that unfolded over the weekend.
Court records indicate that the adult victims were shot in the head, while the child had her throat cut. The bodies were discovered after a series of emergency calls led police to the scene.
Investigators quickly zeroed in on Redding, tracing a silver Saturn Vue to him. When officers attempted to stop him, Redding allegedly led them on a perilous chase, ending with a crash into a median.
Following the crash, police found a .38 caliber revolver in Redding’s possession. Redding admitted to having interacted with the weapon, claiming he was on parole and wished to return it to its owner.
Redding’s previous convictions include armed robbery, carjacking, and felony firearm offenses. He served around 13 years in prison and reportedly tried to control his ex-girlfriend from behind bars.
As the federal case unfolds, Redding is scheduled for a bond hearing on Thursday, while Detroit police continue their investigation into the murders.
