Michigan Man Charged with Mother’s Murder Using Broomstick, Assaults Brother During Tragic Family Dispute

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI — A Michigan man was arrested on charges including second-degree murder after he allegedly killed his 76-year-old mother using a broken broomstick, in a gruesome incident discovered by his brother at their shared residence, authorities said Tuesday.

Armando Streeter, 46, faces accusations of second-degree murder and assault with intent to murder following the April 5 event that led to his mother Loretta Streeter’s death. If convicted, Streeter could receive life imprisonment.

The case took a critical turn when Armando’s brother, William Streeter, walked into a horrific scene, finding his mother deceased with a broomstick impaled in her eye. This discovery prompted an urgent call to the police, during which a violent altercation between the two brothers ensued.

According to Detective Sgt. Brad Benac, prior to the grim discovery, security recordings captured noises indicative of an altercation. The audio included a woman’s voice seemingly pleading for assistance, although Armando was the only other person present.

Following his call to police, William reported that Armando assaulted him with an improvised weapon and attempted to strangle him, leading to the additional assault charges against Armando.

Investigations revealed past incidents involving Armando, including a previous arrest in November 2024 for domestic assault against his mother, though the charges were subsequently dropped.

Prosecutors are advocating for no bail for Armando, citing him as a continuous threat to the public and specifically to his brother, thus underlining the gravity of the charges against him.

During a recent hearing at the 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores, presided over by Judge Craigen Oster, the decision was made to hold Armando without bail. Further details of the case are set to unfold at a cause conference scheduled for April 15, 2025.

The local community has been left unsettled by the vicious nature of the crime, as police continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to Loretta Streeter’s death.

The prosecutor, Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido, expressed his firm resolution to bring justice to the victim and hold the perpetrator accountable for his actions. As the case progresses, the community and authorities alike await further proceedings with the hope for a resolution to this shocking family tragedy.
