RAYAGADA, India – Rayagada in Odisha shut down as protestors demand a CBI probe into the mysterious death of a tribal woman, Laxmi Majhi. Her half-burnt body was found on the premises of Chandrapur community health centre on December 21, leading to widespread agitation.
The bandh called by Zilla Adivasi Mahasangh and the local BJP resulted in paralyzed normal life in the city, with roads deserted and vehicular traffic coming to a halt. The protest aimed to pressure the authorities into solving the case, which has left the community feeling unsafe and seeking justice for Laxmi and others who have died under similar circumstances.
The 28-year-old tribal woman’s death remains a mystery, with initial findings indicating that she was murdered elsewhere and her body was set on fire on the CHC premises to destroy evidence.
