Walmart Employee’s Deadly Rampage in Georgia Store Targets Colleagues in Nighttime Assault

Covington, GA — A tragic sequence unfolded early Friday at a local Walmart, where an employee killed two colleagues and critically wounded another before fatally injuring himself following a police capture in South Carolina. The assailant, identified as Dwayne Eduh, targeted individuals he knew, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

The violence began around 1:30 a.m. when Eduh, who had been working in the Walmart Supercenter southeast of Atlanta, left the store, retrieved a handgun, and returned to fatally shoot 21-year-old coworker Khalaf Barksdale. He then shot and critically injured Ryan Bradley, 29, outside the store. Bradley was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Following these initial attacks at Walmart, Eduh, aged 24, drove to the residence of another colleague, 19-year-old Akeela Clarke, and fatally shot her after forcing entry into her home. Family members present during the incident revealed that Clarke was killed in front of her mother, while her sister found a hiding spot.

Clarke’s family had moved from New York seeking better prospects. She was pursuing nursing studies online while working at Walmart, exemplifying her commitment to aiding others. This emerging detail highlights the victims’ endeavors and personal dreams, now tragically cut short.

After fleeing the crime scenes, Eduh managed to drive approximately 150 miles east before law enforcement apprehended him in Aiken, South Carolina. The capture involved coordination between the Georgia State Patrol and local South Carolina law enforcement, culminating in Eduh’s arrest early Saturday morning.

The standoff that followed led to Eduh shooting himself. He was hospitalized but succumbed to his injuries by Sunday afternoon, confirmed Sergeant Jack Redlinger. Throughout the altercation, no law enforcement officers were injured.

The motive behind the shootings remains unclear as authorities continue their investigation. The violent acts have not only taken the lives of young individuals but also shaken the community and echoed past disturbances at this specific Walmart location, which previously experienced gunfire in its parking lot last October.

Walmart has since closed the Covington store temporarily as the investigation proceeds, and company representatives have expressed their devastation over the violent acts, underscoring their policy against such disturbances in their establishments.

Following Eduh’s death, investigators are working to clarify the connections and potential grievances leading up to his violent actions. Meanwhile, Newton County deputies and support from Georgia State Patrol continue to secure the two crime scenes and gather crucial evidence.

The community awaits further details, hoping for clarity and resolution. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office has scheduled a press conference to address the ongoing investigation and community’s concerns, confirming their commitment to maintaining public safety and preventing such tragedies in the future.
