Niagara Falls Man Arrested on Animal Cruelty Charges After Abandoning Puppies

NIAGARA FALLS, NY – A 63-year-old man from Niagara Falls has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty after five puppies were found abandoned along the Niagara Parkway. The investigation was opened on December 28th, 2023, by Niagara officers, leading to the arrest of Mario Sid Silva.

Silva is facing charges that include killing animals other than cattle, as well as four counts of causing unnecessary pain or suffering to an animal. Four of the Shar-Pei puppies were found and are now in the care of the Niagara SPCA. Unfortunately, one of the puppies had already passed away when officers arrived at the scene, and two are still unaccounted for.

The abandoned Shar-Pei puppies, believed to be 6 to 8 weeks old, will remain in the care of the Niagara SPCA until they reach an adoptable age. Plans are in place to find them suitable homes.
